Radio, Radio

Nothing makes me so ridiculously happy as happening upon "Ramblin' Man" by The Allman Brothers on the radio. I mean, I own the music, but cueing it up at home is nowhere near as cool as just being in the right place at the right time for it on the radio. Sometimes I don't even make it through the whole endless guitar solo at the end, but I always loudly sing, "I'm on my way to New Orleans this morning, leaving out of Nashville, Tennessee. They're always havin' a good time down on the bayou, Lord, and them Delta women think the world of me," like I believe every word is the truth.

I know I'm not the only one who gets all happy at random songs on the radio. Which one(s) make you go, "Sweet!" (or, if you're a Skynyrd fan, "Turn it up!")?

(Ooh! Speaking of Skynyrd, "I Know a Little" has the same effect.)

predictably it is the big e that gets me, especially suspicious minds or kentucky rain...but is so rare to ever hear them on the radio anymore. i have also been known to give it up for neil diamond, or glenn.

If "I know a little "doesn't have you gyrating all over the front seat, seek therapy. Also, those rare times when you catch George Thorogood's "Get a Haircut" or Van Halen's "Ice Cream Man" can bring you out of a coma. I've been tempted to buy any of the respective CD's but it isn't near as fun as when fate plays them for you when you are most in need.(Like about 3am on I-29 with a load of cattle and no more coffee.)

NoK, I don't know how you ever did it. I get sleepy driving down 169 in broad daylight. Most in need, indeed!

Ah, Elvis. Nobody plays him. I really have to get XM satellite -- I think that's the one with the all-Elvis station. Can you imagine the giddiness?

Confession: I don't know any of these tunes!

Do you have something more Swedish and poppy?

God, these are the questions that deserve answers! My mother had a spell of music-buying when I was in junior high and had, all at once, the Stones (Some Girls, arguably their last good album), a new Rick James 8-track, and Seger (Night Moves). So anything from those makes me sing and be happy. I also still adore anything from Off the Wall (i.e., before MJ became a freaky-deaky).

Agree on Neil. Also AC/DC.

cK, I will refrain from berating you for not being a real American.

Oh man. I love Some Girls, too. But dude, your mom listened to Rick James?! I remember getting ALL embarrassed riding the car with my mom and that Bad Company song came on the radio: "Feel Like Makin' Love." OMG! Make it Stop!

cK, if you don't know all the words to at least one Skynyrd song, they will kick you out of the Midwest! Try "Gimme Three Steps" -- it's a short one.

When it comes to lynyrd skynyrd songs it seems apropos to say that ck knows less than a little.

oh yeah, as for your question...if i were ever to hear it on the radio, it would totally freak out my shit to jam to 'we don't have to take our clothes off to have a good time'. but with radio stations being so piss poor in these parts, i had to download a podcast with the song in it at http://thegroove.libsyn.com/, and then act all surprised when it comes on.
